Chore Check — Privacy Policy

Chore Check is a parental-control app. A parent sets up chores and takes example ("answer-key") photos; the child then takes a photo or short video to prove a chore is done, and the app decides whether it matches. This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes. It is written to be read by parents.

Information the app handles

• Chore photos and videos. The example photos a parent takes and the photos/videos a child takes to prove a chore is done.
• Which apps are opened on the device (Android only). On Android the app checks which app is in the foreground so it knows when to start a chore check (for example, when a calling or messaging app opens). This information is used only on the device and is never sent anywhere. The iPhone and iPad version does not do this. Apple does not allow an app to see which other apps are in use, so on iOS a chore check and any internet pause are started by the parent, not automatically.
• A parent PIN. Stored only as a scrambled (hashed) value on the device — never as readable text and never sent anywhere.
• An optional recovery email address. A parent may choose to add an email address so the parent PIN can be reset if it is forgotten. This is entirely optional — the app works normally without it. The address is stored on the device. When (and only when) a parent asks for a PIN reset, it is sent to our server together with a 6-digit code, and our server passes both to Resend, the service that delivers the email. Our server does not save the address, and neither we nor Resend use it for marketing. It is never sold or shared for any other purpose.
• App settings and counters. Which chores are on, timer lengths, and how many times the "emergency" option was used. Stored only on the device.

How chore photos are checked

To judge whether a chore is done, the app sends the parent's example image(s) and the child's image(s) to our own server, which passes them to Google's Gemini AI service for analysis. The server receives back a short result (pass or fail, a score, and a friendly message) and returns that to the app.

• Our server does not save these images — it processes each request in memory and discards the images once the result is returned.
• The images are analysed by Google's Gemini service and are therefore also subject to Google's Privacy Policy. We do not control how Google processes data sent to its AI services.
• If the server cannot be reached, the app falls back to comparing the two images directly on the device, and no image leaves the device in that case.

Where information is stored

The example photos, the most recent attempt, the hashed PIN, a short local log of results, and all settings are stored in the app's private storage on the device itself. They are not backed up to us. Uninstalling the app removes them from the device.

Advertising

Chore Check is free, and is paid for by advertising. In the parent area — the screens that can only be opened with the parent PIN — there is a banner ad, and when a parent opens it a full-screen ad may appear, no more than once every few minutes. Two calm screens a child sees, “You're free!” and “All chores done”, show a small banner ad. A child never sees a full-screen ad, and no ad is shown while a child is doing a chore (the timer and camera), on the PIN pad, or when the app is opened. The Amazon Appstore version of the app shows no ads at all.

The ad is provided by Google AdMob. Because Chore Check runs on a child's device, every ad request is marked as child-directed under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). That means Google shows only non-personalized ads suitable for a general audience, and does not use the device for interest-based advertising or tracking. The app does not access the device's advertising identifier: on Android the permission for it is removed from the app, and on iPhone the app never asks for permission to track.

To show the ad, Google still receives what every ad request carries — such as the device's IP address, device type, operating system and app version, and whether the ad was shown or tapped — to deliver the ad, count it, and prevent fraud. What we do not do

• We do not show personalized ads, use ads to track anyone, show full-screen ads to children, or show any ad while a child is doing a chore.
• We do not use analytics.
• We do not sell or rent anyone's information.
• The app does not require an account, name, or location. The only personal detail it can hold is the optional PIN-recovery email described above, and only if a parent chooses to add one.
• Even when the app blocks internet access, it never blocks or interferes with placing a phone call, so a child can always call for help in an emergency.

Requesting data deletion

Chore Check does not keep any of your data on our servers — the example photos, the parent PIN, and all settings live only in the app's private storage on your own device. Uninstalling the app removes all of it immediately. If you'd like help with that, or have any other question about your data, email worldofgal@gmail.com and we'll respond promptly.

Payments

Chore Check is free. Earlier versions were sold as a subscription; for anyone who still has one, the app checks with Apple or Google only whether it is active, so it can remind the parent that it can be cancelled. Payment was always handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) — we never see, receive, or store card or billing details.

Children's privacy

Chore Check is meant to be set up and controlled by a parent or guardian for use by their own child. Setup actions — taking the example photos, setting the PIN, choosing chores — are protected behind the parent PIN. The app does not knowingly collect personal details such as a child's name, email, or location, and it does not use a child's images for any purpose other than judging the chore in the moment. A parent or guardian can remove all of the app's data at any time by uninstalling the app, and can contact us at worldofgal@gmail.com with any request or question.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the new version at this same address.
